A boutique style 'home from home'.

Relax amidst the beautiful hills and mountains of mid Wales, perched up above Rhayader - gateway to the Elan Valley and yet 20-30minutes walking to the pubs, cafes and shops of the old town.

A spacious converted barn refurbished with sensitivity and charm, attached to the old farmhouse (owners residence). Extremely peaceful and found at end of unmade track, unsuitable for low lying cars but can be navigated with care.

THE SPACE

A light, airy open plan space with 2 upstairs bedrooms - beware low beams/limited head clearance - with EITHER 1 Superking bed OR 2 single beds in each room. NB: bathroom is downstairs. Although it can sleep 6 if you use the sofa bed downstairs, please note there is only 1 bathroom.

A woodburner and radiators keep the space warm.

The kitchen has everything you might need and a Nespresso machine for coffee lovers - capsules provided and a selection of Pukka/Welsh teas included. We will leave a welcome pack for you - details tbc before arrival.

The fridge has a separate freezer at the top but it is NOT big but should be enough for your needs if you shop regularly. We encourage the use of environmentally friendly products and the bathroom stocks a selection of FAITH IN NATURE products, toothpaste, handwash and handcream.

There is a secluded outdoor area with swings and picnic table where you can relax, eat and children can play safely. The wood is ours and guests can explore at their leisure. We have semi secure bike storage. All at guests own risk.

Ffosmascal is perfect for walkers, cyclists, night sky enthusiasts, anglers, singletons and families alike. Located with easy access to the seaside of Aberystwyth, the Brecon Beacons, Hay on Wye and of course the stunning Elan Valley. There really is so much to do here it's impossible to list it all.

We have 3 friendly black cats who are typically curious. They are fine with dogs but may try to get into the barn if you're not careful! It's best not to encourage them in as not all guests like cats! Well behaved dogs on leads are VERY welcome to stay.

Please be aware there are sheep in adjoining fields. Parking for up to 4 cars is onsite and directly accessible to accommodation.

If you need to use a washing machine let us know. There is a launderette in town but it's also possible to use ours which is more convenient for you. We don't have a tumble dryer but can dry clothing pretty quickly next to the aga.

Please be aware that although we are within walking distance of Rhayader, some guests may find the road a bit daunting to walk. There are stretches with no pavement and it will be pitch black at night. Having said that, we do walk it but only during the day. The road is usually not that busy but care must be taken if walking. It's up to you!!

GUEST ACCESS

Entire annexe for guests private use.

Parking in town can be limited but there is free parking on streets and a Pay and Display carpark next to leisure centre. Also free parking in the cattle market except on market days. Aberystwth can be busy during high season and parking not easy. We advise parking a bit out of town or on residential streets and walking in. However, there is parking on the promenade if walking is not an option. You just have to take your chances! Or take the direct bus from Rhayader?

There are plenty of walks from Rhayader in to the hills or the Elan Valley. There is the beautiful Gilfach Nature reserve a short drive from the barn where you'll find a series of walks clearly marked with difficulty factors noted.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

NB: We supply everything you need to make breakfast - except meat. Our welcome pack includes bread, eggs, butter, milk, orange juice welsh cakes , welsh chocolate, dog treats (if appropriate). A wide range of coffee and teas are included.

All bathroom and kitchen products meaning you could turn up with just yourselves and you'd be fine! Due to rising costs we now only leave 1 basket of logs for woodburner. Should you require more you can easily purchase kiln dried logs locally by the bag or from us.
