Flax Mill Cottage is comfortable 2-bedroom cottage near the river Nidd. Nestled within the historic Glasshouses Mill, Flax Mill Cottage enjoys a peaceful and picturesque setting alongside the River Nidd and the stunningly beautiful Glasshouses Dam.
Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, the area offers a wide variety of activities and caters well for walkers and dog walkers. Inside the cottage, original beams and artefacts offer glimpses into the mill's 19th-century heritage. The addition of modern and traditional furnishings creates a charming, cosy atmosphere for guests to relax in and enjoy.
Outside, a paved, enclosed patio garden with a surrounding 6ft fence provides a quiet area to sit and enjoy the sun.
Inside the property:
The three-storey cottage contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and cosy living area on the ground floor, a twin bedroom and house shower room on the first floor, and a fantastic master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite on the second floor. Heating is via electric radiators, with the addition of an electric stove in the lounge area. Hot water is plentiful and constant, and previous guests have remarked about the excellent rainfall showers in each bathroom. Bamboo hand and bath towels are provided, along with hand wash and toilet rolls in each bathroom.
The mattresses in both bedrooms are soft-medium sprung, with a topper and cotton bed linen. Duvets are washable and either 10.5 tog for winter or 4.5 tog for summer use, with extra throws provided if needed. We have fast, full fibre 100 broadband and two smart TVs, so guests may log into their favourite channels if wished. The location is very quiet and conducive to working via laptop 'from home'. Phone calls are good via WhatsApp.
Outside, the paved and gravelled patio area with seating and planting provides a welcome area to relax in with a cuppa. On summer mornings, this is a true sun trap in this quiet and peaceful location, only interrupted by the singing of the birds or the occasional chat of hikers and dog walkers passing by.
Whether you are planning a holiday or a business trip, you will find everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Dogs:
The property is dog-friendly, and we welcome up to two small/medium dogs (up to Spaniel size) in accordance with a few house rules, as stated in our website’s Terms and Conditions. Sorry, we do not accept other animals, only dogs. We ask that guests bring their dogs' bowls, beds, towels, and throws for furniture, but if forgotten, there will be a small basket of items provided anyway.
Additional information:
We have one allocated car parking space within the development. Additional cars may be parked just outside the main entrance. All parking is free.
Please note:
- There is a gentle flight of steps from the road down to the property and two steep flights of stairs within the property.
- Regrettably, this property is not suitable for wheelchairs or guests with mobility issues.
- The bedrooms are on separate floors, and as such, we do not consider it suitable for families with very young children.
The local area:
Agriculture has always featured heavily in Dales life, both before and after the many mills that have existed, and the area is full of quaint old stone farmhouses, cottages, and barns, surrounded by lush green fields and dry stone walls.
There are wonderful landscapes to enjoy, with abundant opportunities for walking, cycling, photography, horse riding, birdwatching, etc. For those of a more adventurous disposition, perhaps potholing, caving, rafting, canoeing, climbing, or paddle boarding may take your fancy!

The cottage had everything we needed which made for a very comfortable stay. The location is beautiful and within easy reach of Pateley Bridge, Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey. Ideal for exploring a little further afield into the Dales too. Would highly recommend!
