17 The Lanes - a welcoming 2-bedroom cottage in Matlock, Derbyshire
This welcoming 2-bedroom cottage was purchased in 2018 and underwent a sympathetic refurbishment before opening as a holiday cottage in April 2019. It now combines character with modern convenience and provides a real home from home.
The high peak trail is on our doorstep along with glorious walking and cycling.
Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of the Peak District. Nestled in the Bolehill area high above the town, 17 The Lanes is perfectly located for exploring Wirksworth and the surrounding Peak District and Derbyshire Dales.
Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth are all within very easy reach and Carsington Water is only a couple of miles away.
Dogs are very welcome at the cottage but we do ask that they are not allowed on the furniture or the beds.
We also have private parking for 2 cars.
Please note that the cottage is built into a hillside so that the garden is accessed from the first floor across a small footbridge. The door into the garden is at the top of the stairs and there is a quite steep step out of the door and then 4 more steps to the garden. There are drops to retain two sides of the garden from the cottage but these are well fenced with fencing approximately 3’6″ high. It is not suitable for wheel chair access.

- Review from...: Airbnb: 2 of us stayed for a weekend at Sue's lovely cottage. She had thought of everything in furnishing and equipping her home to a high standard. Everything worked properly, WiFi was great, the lounge and bedrooms very comfortable and the bathroom especially nice. The logburner was easy to use and cosy. Sue had thoughtfully left us a few provisions, her information about local eateries which she'd messaged me was helpful, allowing us to choose and book in advance, and there were lots of laminated local walking maps. The cottage info file was the best I've ever encountered: thorough, detailed, well set out and helpful. There was also a file of suggested walks all with clear directions, and even photographs. Sue has taken so much care in providing her guests with everything to make this a great stay. l would love to stay again. Victoria, Oct 2023
